A New Life - Abby

When animal protection workers picked Abby off the street in September, she looked thin and sickly, surviving on a diet of garbage. The elderly dog, estimated to be between 10 and 12 years old, was severely hairless. Animal protection workers knew Abby needed better care, but their resources were limited, so they contacted the Louisiana Animal Shelter, where they knew she could become a beautiful dog with love and care.

The volunteers caring for Abby were shocked by her condition. It was hard to believe she had survived this way on her own. The elderly dog suffered from ear and skin diseases, a broken hind leg, and several other ailments requiring treatment. Most of her problems had clearly gone untreated for a long time, so the volunteers caring for Abby wasted no time and immediately began her recovery journey.

"We had to clean her daily and administer medication for her skin and ear problems," said volunteer Sarrah Walton. "She received a tremendous amount of love and care during this time."

Abby endured repeated treatments, including surgery, but it was all worth it. She's doing much better now than when she first arrived, having finally gotten so well she's almost unrecognizable.

When Abby was first found, she barely looked like a dog; now she's a fluffy, energetic pup who's thoroughly enjoying her life. Her rescuers can't believe how much she's changed and are so happy for her.

"Abby is doing great now," Walton said. "She has a great personality and is so full of energy. She's the queen of our puppies, loving to be cuddled by the volunteers and enjoying all the love and attention."
Abby still has one more course of treatment to complete, but after that, she'll be ready to find a forever home. She's come so far on this journey, and all her friends can't wait to see her happy ending.
